Ingrown nails
curved nails whose edges dig painfully into the skin
and often become infected. Ingrown toenails may be
caused by improper nail trimming, shoe pressure,
injury, fungus infection, heredity and poor foot
structure. Ingrown nails can be prevented by carefully
trimming the nails regularly, and not picking at
them. Painful nails should be treated immediately by
your podiatrist, to make sure a little problem, does
hot turn into a BIG problem!
Plantar fasciitis/Heel spurs
- Heel pain occurs when the plantar fascia (a
ligament) pulls at its attachment directly under the
heel. This area of the heel may later calcify to form a
spur. With proper stretching, anti inflammatory
measures, massage and arch supports, this pain normally
responds to conservative treatment.
Bunions
- misaligned great toe joint that becomes swollen and
painful from shoe pressure and constant motion as we
walk. Bunions tend to be hereditary, but are
aggravated by improper shoes and an active lifestyle
Dont let a foot deformity ruin your quality of life!
Hammertoe
- a condition in which the toe draws up and contracts,
making the knuckle more prominent and painful as shoe
rub and pinch the prominence. It occurs most frequently
with the small toe, but any of the toes can be
affected.
Shin splints
- pain to either side of the leg bone, caused by muscle
or tendon inflammation. It is commonly related to
excessive foot pronation (collapsing arch), but may be
related to a muscle imbalance between opposing muscle
groups in the leg. Proper stretching, strengthening and
custom functional foot orthoses (shoe inserts)
effectively treat and prevent shin splints.
Plantars Warts
-
A wart is an infection caused by a virus, which can invade
the skin through small cuts or breaks. Over time, the
wart develops into a hard, rough growth under the skin.
A wart is most often seen on the bottom of the foot,
but can also appear on the top.
